Hungary ensures automatic and systematic detention of all asylum seekers - The Commission needs to act now!

Open letter to the First Vice-President of the Commission Timmermans, the Commissioner on Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Avramopoulos and the Frontex-Director Leggeri

In an open letter, Ska and other members of the Greens / EFA Group called on the EU Commission and Frontex to react to the asylum laws yesterday adopted by the Hungarian Parliament. According to these laws all asylum seekers are to be interned in camps on the Hungarian-Serbian border for the duration of their asylum procedures. This also applies to children, unaccompanied minors, and those who are particularly vulnerable due to age or illness. With the new laws, Hungary is clearly breaking EU law.

We therefore demand:

• Launching infringement proceedings against Hungary
• Suspending the ongoing Frontex operations in Hungary
